Statement In my work I ask questions about collective human behavior concerning privacy. My approach translates into the statement: "The right to privacy is a social myth." The right to privacy is not fixed, but constantly in motion; its ever-changing boundaries determined by the society in which it exists. Unlike my work from the period 2003-2006, I don't use my recent work to reflect my personal life but the society I live in. The focus lies on unraveling social trends as an art form. My intention is to expose the zeitgeist of the mainstream. Statement from 2003-2006 My work is about human behaviour. The setting I have chosen is the lifecycle of a young family seen from a Western, Northern-European perspective. Since I became a father in 2003 my own family has become my source of inspiration. Our identity as a family, exposing our personal life, being fed by information and consumption. process
The way I work starts with a concept or idea that takes shape and evolves over time as I work on it. The concept or idea’s life expectancy depends on whether it is clearly defined. The choice of materials also depends on the concept or idea itself.Usually a concept or idea will lead to new ideas that spring from the materials I’m using. My interest in a certain material can factor in to the decision to work with that material for a longer period of time. That way images are created that stand on their own, giving the concept an organic continuation that wasn’t foreseen beforehand. |
